USS Scranton (SSN-756), a Los Angeles -class submarine, is the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for Scranton, Pennsylvania. The contract to build her was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Newport News, Virginia, on 26 November 1984, and construction began on 29 August 1986.

Guinn took command of USS Scranton September 29, 2006, and ensured the "Iron Horse" lived up to its motto, "On Time, On Track, On Target."

February 16, SSN 756 moored at HMNB Portsmouth, England, for a nine-day upkeep. March 6, USS Scranton pulled into Augusta Bay, Italy, to receive supplies and personnel. March 19, The Scranton launched Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs), after 8 p.m. local time in the Mediterranean Sea, in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn.
