Wichita city officials community members and ice skaters came together Monday night to remember the lives of skaters and coaches killed in last week’s crash near Washington, D.C.’s Ronal Reagan National Airport involving American Airlines flight 5342,

The city had tried for years to host the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and to get a direct flight to the northeast.

U.S. Figure Skating says 28 members of the skating community on Flight 5342, returning from a national development camp for promising young skaters following the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita.

Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas, ended on an upbeat and satisfying note on Jan. 26 with the senior men’s competition. Northern Virginia’s Ilia Malinin claimed his third U.

The tight-knit New Jersey ice skating community mourned together for the D.C. plan crash victims at a memorial vigil held at the Hackensack Ice House.

Several of the victims were part of the U.S. Figure Skating team. Their deaths hit close to home for members of the ice-skating community nationwide. A little outside Charlotte, in Indian Trail, a moment of silence was held for the ice-skating victims.
