So far, nine people have been infected with suspected Marburg, with samples currently in a laboratory for official confirmation. Their symptoms included headaches, high fever, back pain, vomiting blood and, in the most serious cases, bleeding from their orifices.

The WHO said Tuesday that a suspected outbreak of the deadly Marburg virus in Tanzania had killed eight people, warning that the risk of further spread in the country and region was “high”. The United Nations health agency said it had informed its member states on Monday of “an outbreak of suspected Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in the Kagera region” of Tanzania.

The deadly Marburg Virus Disease is suspected to have infected as many as nine people — including eight fatally — in Tanzania’s Kagera region, the World Health Organization said.
