A Denver jury convicted a 23-year-old man on Thursday morning of first-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of a beloved mother and community leader in the East Colfax neighborhood.

A man charged in the 2022 shooting death of community activist Ma Kaing was convicted by a Denver jury Thursday of first-degree murder, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

On February 6, a Denver jury yesterday convicted Lu Reh of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder for an incident in which a beloved local restaurant owner was killed. Prosecutors had charged Reh and three other defendants in connection with the July 2022 shooting at a park in the 1300 block of Xenia Street.

A jury ruled Thursday that a man accused of the shooting death of Ma Kaing is guilty of murder. In July 2022, Denver businesswoman Ma Kaing was unloading groceries outside of her apartment on Xenia Street when she was killed by a stray bullet.
