DeWine on sports betting tax to fund stadium projects: ‘It just makes sense'
DeWine was in Cleveland on Thursday, Feb. 6, for a press conference publicizing the city’s bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games. In speaking with a handful of reporters afterward, DeWine doubled down on the proposed tax increase, saying it’s better to take money from the sports gaming companies than the general taxpayers.
It’s safe to assume that when then-Ohio Gov. George Voinovich signed the so-called “Art Modell Law” in 1996, the possibility of the law being used against the Cleveland Browns wasn’t on anyone’s mind.
