Certain Tesla models have been recalled due a computer circuit board shortage causing the vehicles' rearview cameras to not display images properly.

Tesla has been forced to recall almost 240,000 cars after discovering a camera issue could cause serious accidents.

A faulty rearview camera in some Teslas fails to properly display images, increasing the risk of a crash, traffic regulators say.

The development comes days after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a probe into 2.6 million Tesla vehicles in the US over reports of crashes involving a feature that allows users to move their cars remotely.

Tesla estimates that just 2% of the recalled vehicles actually have this defect. The automaker has identified 887 warranty claims and 68 field reports related to this issue, but it told the NHTSA that it's unaware of any related collisions, injuries, or fatalities.

The company, in an announcement, is recalling around 239,000 units associated with a fault in the rear-view camera system. The failure, Reuters cited, comes when a reverse current causes the camera not to function as expected and thereby represents a potential risk to safety that may result for drivers.
