President Donald Trump issued executive orders late Friday reviving some of his first term’s anti-abortion policies, like restrictions on federal funding for family planning and some overseas health programs.

He overturned two orders issued by former President Joseph Biden that had burnished federal abortion protections. And he reinstated a longstanding Republican policy barring federal funds from going to organizations overseas that perform or promote abortions.

Anti-abortion groups are pressing the Trump Justice Department and Food and Drug Administration to quickly reverse Biden administration policies on abortion pills and impose a clampdown, including the use of a 19th-century anti-obscenity law to block the mailing of the drugs.

In the background of his anti-immigration orders and attacks on civil rights, the president and his allies are advancing their anti-abortion agenda.
