Rapper and actor Gene “Groove” Allen, known as one-third of the City hip-hop trip Groove B. Chill, has died unexpectedly, according to his family.

Gene “Groove” Allen, a New York City rapper of the 1980s-’90s trio Groove B. Chill who went on to appear in the 1990 movie House Party and 1993’s What’s Love Got To Do With It, died Wednesday at his home in Maryland.

Gene “Groove” Allen, a rapper and actor from the Bronx who appeared in early 1990s film favorites like “House Party” and “House Party 2,” is dead at 63, according to TMZ. “Groove,” as he was known, was also part of the rap group Groove B.
