Former MLB outfielder Bubba Thompson is trying his hand at a different sport. According to AL.com, Thompson has joined the South Alabama football team as a walk-on. In a video Thompson posted on his social media accounts,

South Alabama football has added 11 players via the transfer portal, coach Major Applewhite confirmed to AL.com.

Former MLB outfielder Bubba Thompson is enrolling at the University of South Alabama, reports Creg Stephenson of AL.com. He is joining the Jaguars football team as a walk-on, Stephenson writes.

Mobile-native and former first round MLB draft pick Bubba Thompson is set to play football at South Alabama. Thompson, a 2017 graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic, was a highly touted high school prospect in both football and baseball.

Thompson, known as a speed demon during his time in baseball, will attempt to walk on with the South Alabama football team.

Bubba Thompson played 109 games for the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds over the last three seasons. Now, the 26-year-old is switching sports, and will follow in the footsteps of players like Chris Weinke by playing college football in his mid-20s.
