After one year season with Alex Van Pelt leading the offense, the New England Patriots have re-hired Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

Josh McDaniels is reportedly returning to the New England Patriots for a third stint as offensive coordinator. NFL insider Kirk Minihane reported the news everyone expected to come at some point, even though coach Mike Vrabel said he’d consider multiple candidates for the job.

They did so by bringing in former league MVP Cam Newton, and designing an offense centered around the run game — including the quarterback. The bottom line was, admittedly, not impressive. The Patriots missed the playoffs with a 7-9 record and ended the year ranked in the bottom third in scoring and scoring efficiency;
