Chrysler recently initiated a recall for 63,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles with issues related to power transfer units, posing a safety threat.

Cherokee SUVs because drivers may lose power while in motion or not be able to put the vehicle into Park due to transmission problems.

While only 2% are believed to be affected, some Cherokees may have an input shaft snap ring that is not fully seated. This can allow for “uncontrolled movement” of the shaft, which can eventually cause wear, spline damage, and fork damage. If that happens, you’re ‘forked’ as your Jeep could rollaway or lose the ability to accelerate.

Stellantis warns that a poorly fitted part in some Jeep Cherokees could cause the vehicles to lose power, increasing the risk of crash.

Jeep is recalling 63,082 examples of the 2017-2019 Cherokee because of a problem that could cause a complete loss of drive power and prevent the vehicle from entering Park. This is an expansion of an earlier campaign to fix this issue.
